let her eat steak.

how annoyed do i get when i'm having dinner with The Cute, the waiter brings our meals and places the salad in front of me, assuming that because i'm The Girl it must be mine?

quite.

how much pleasure do i get in looking up at him through my fluttering lashes and saying, "oh, no, no, no. the BURGER is mine. might i also have a side of mayo for the fries?"

tons.

does this ever happen to you? how does it make you feel? do you feel guilty for ordering the "bad" food? or do you revel in ordering the food that makes your body hum? what are some witty (though kind) ways of handling it?

I don't think I have ever had that happen to me, but I suppose if it did I would just correct the waiter and take my food. I feel that society is telling us that we should feel bad/guilty about eating "bad" food, but it is up to the individual to know what is best for them and their body.

Hope it didn't make you feel guilty for getting a delicious burger! If guys don't have to feel guilty why should women?

Just found your blog today and I love it! I look forward to following your blog!

That happens to me all the time. They always assume the chicken salad is mine and the burger is his. I say, screw the labels. Eat what you want!

i agree, tricia! nooo, i didn't let him make me feel guilty. i actually think i reveled in it a little more! ( : nowadays, in those situations, i feel like i'm re-educating someone (in a teeny, tiny little way) about women and what's acceptable, healthy and NORMAL in terms of their appetites. its not fair to men either. they like salads too, and it doesn't mean they're less of a MAN (she said with a growl).

thanks, christie! welcome! and i totally agree about screwing the labels. i think i want to make a t-shirt that says, "the burger is mine."

That happens to me. They give the Diet Coke to me and the beer to my husband. Urrrrgggghhh.

...same as when you order dessert, and they bring out whatever it is with 5 spoons so everyone at the table can "share" the dessert...oh my, a woman would never think of eating an entire portion of dessert on her OWN! *haha!*

Sometimes when i'm going out for dinner with my family to a restaurant I haven't been to before, they normally say to me 'it's ok, i'm sure they do salads!' It always kinda makes me laugh!

urrrgh is right, meryt.

brilliant, hope505! you are SO right! i HATE it when they do that. next time, i'm gonna say, "one spoon will suffice, thanks."

good you can laugh at it, sophie! that IS progress!
