limping is not an option

it occurred to me yesterday, as i sat in Bryant Park watching many a lovely woman teeter by on heels, that one way we can take care of ourselves, one way we can help ensure that we'll live a full, brimming life is by wearing comfortable shoes.

there's something incredibly soothing about those two words, isn't there?

COMFORTABLE SHOES.

sigh. i think my shoulders just dropped 2 inches.

at the very least, we should carry a pair of comfy shoes in our bag that we can change into for when the 3 ring circuses we're wearing on our feet become too much.

our shoes should never be the reason we don't go, see or do... or dance.

i bought a pair of sequined, black ballet slippers with a tread that are my comfy option. they roll up into a little ball that i can toss into my purse. they also make me unbelievably happy, but i suppose that's pretty much true of anything that sparkles. sunlit lakes... my niece's eyes... pavement.

it may seem like an oversimplification, but don't you go more, see more, do more, dance more when you're wearing comfortable shoes?

don't get me wrong i like a cute pair of heels. but most of the time you will see me in sneaks and flats. this girl has GOT to be comfortable.

me too, randomlymikey. i have quite a few high heels in my closet, but when it comes down to it, and i'm faced with making a decision in the a.m., it's usually flats all the way for me...

It's TRUE! Same goes with clothes. I know that when I get "dolled" up in something I don't feel comfortable in or that just doesn't fit quite right, I don't enjoy myself as much and am insanely awkward. Likewise, I don't do my hair in a way that causes me to avoid certain weather conditions or events in order to keep the style (in my case, that would be spending 45 minutes straightening it only to walk outside in the Texas weather and have it poof like a cotton ball) or that means I'll have to constantly "re-primp" it. Be as comfortable as possible and everything else will fall into place. :)

Where were we? Ah yes, comfortable shoes. Let's not even start talking about bras...

Afterthought: once I gave up dieting I also started wearing my hair (naturally) curly and said farewell to any shoes that butchered my feet. When you're good to yourself in one way, it kind of carries over into other areas!

it really does, sara, it really, really does (i'm jumping up and down and clapping inside)! it's amazing (and yet so simple) how that works. i'm with you on the hair and bra bit as well. i'm in a wedding very soon, and i've been handwringing about my hair. you've inspired me to NOT worry over it. it's gonna be hot and humid, so my hair's gonna go up into a cute little "blush-brush" ponytail with a couple of cute barrettes. that way, i can dance and sweat and get silly without being preoccupied with The Hair.
